Animateka's 11: Andreas Hykade

Andreas Hykade is one of the most talented and original voices in animation today. He studied animation at the prestigious Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Since 2000, he has been teaching animation at various institutions, such as Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, Royal College of Art London, Kunsthochschule Kassel and Harvard University. He is the only director to have won the German short film prize three times, and his works have been honoured by retrospectives around the world.

Raw, dark, intelligent.

 

Your most recognisable character trait?


Grumpy.

 

What frightens you the most?


Death.

I like them all, if the stuff is good.

Tom & the Slice of Bread with Strawberry Jam & Honey.

 

Favourite female director?


Michele Cournoyer.

 

Where do you see the future of animated films going?


Towards the dark light.
